95% done...

with digging the grass out of the new garden! I just need to go back and clean up the edges and get those stray clumps out. Then I'll try to get all the biggest rocks out and rake. After that, tilling time! Notice how I went beyond the end of the veg garden? Heehee. There's something special planned for this area. I can't even begin to describe the feeling of accomplishment I had after stopping work on it yesterday. The key to digging such a large area is to stay in the moment. Each shovel, each bend, each clump you carry over to the pile is the one thing that matters. Focus on the moment at hand and Voila!, you're there!

I've uncovered a lot of weird stuff, but this thing was buried beneath the grass into the dirt. At first I couldn't tell what it was and was leery of it. It looked almost like a canister of sorts. And see those worms? They looked like they were crawling out of what seemed like a lid.
That's when I got scared thinking there was a container buried in the yard with worms crawling out of it, so I ran in and got Matt to come help me. He quickly ascertained that it was merely one of those stakes that people use to tie dogs up in the yard. You know, with the swivel top so the chain can move? With that, I felt dumb but relieved, and he started digging it out. We were expecting it to be regular sized, but he just kept digging deeper and deeper.
As deep as this thing was buried, it still had it's paint on it. We thought it would be one of those corkscrew-type stakes, but this is a freaking death rod! It's so sharp and straight that it probably would have drove itself through to China if we hadn't taken up the grass!

Cheese and Rice, that's huge!

Well, it a sure thing that doggie wasn't going anywhere. When I first saw it, it looked like a land mine. :)

Deb, does that mean I'm your hero? Ok, you can call me your hero if it means that much to you. LOL

Thanks for visiting ladies! -Jen :)

LOL! Love that China comment. It must have been a big dog to need such a big stake.
